Everyone plays the game a little differently, and the more you play the more you hone your personal style.
But how personal is your personal style really?
What dictates that style? What causes you to make an impulsive decision, or play it safe on any given round of poker?
When do you feel confident and go all in? And when do you know someone’s bluffing when they haven’t really given off any visible cues?
Astrology and Poker
The answer to these questions may be partly due to your astrological sign. Our star signs impart influences on our personalities, and those influences affect everything we do — including playing cards.
Knowing how your sign can impact your poker game can give you insights into your own playstyle. More importantly, if you know your opponent’s sign, it can also give you insight into their decisions — and might even give you an edge. Here’s how astrology influences poker playing:
Aries Poker Playstyle (March 21 – April 19)
Aries is characterized by a competitive nature and is naturally courageous. When it comes to playing poker, this character type results in fearless decision-making and aggressive betting. Aries players seek to take the lead and dominate the table with their confident (sometimes over-confident) and ambitious playstyle.
Taurus Poker Playstyle (April 20 – May 20)
Taurus individuals are known for their stubbornness, grit and determination. When it comes to playing poker, the Taurus playstyle is consistent and patient. They’re not easily swayed by opponents, and wont’ be easy to manipulate with bluffing or shows of confidence or theatrical fear. Tauruses are slow moving and confident as they wait for the right moment to suddenly charge.
Gemini Poker Playstyle (May 21 – June 20)
Above all else when it comes to poker playing, Geminis are adaptable. This adaptability gives Geminis the ability to read a table and to adjust their play on the fly. In addition, Geminis are great at communicating (or not communicating, when required) which gives them an additional advantage when it comes to bluffing.
Cancer Poker Playstyle (June 21 – July 22)
With their hard shells and sideways movement, crabs are inherently defensive creatures. When it comes to poker, Cancers excel at playing defensively, and taking only the most calculated of risks. Rarely making bold moves, Cancers typically prefer to play a highly mathematical, odds based game. They also excel at calling others’ bluffs.
Leo Poker Playstyle (July 23 – August 22)
The mighty lions of the zodiac are known for the charisma and confidence. At the poker table, Leos are natural-born risk takers, and know how to be both aggressive and strategic. Their charisma also gives them a considerable capacity to bluff — but their overflowing sense of confidence can sometimes betray them.
Virgo Poker Playstyle (August 23 – September 22)
Virgos are master statisticians. As any good poker player knows, the game revolves around probability and math. When Virgos sit down at the poker table, they excel at calculating odds, analyzing their opponents decisions and applying math to their card playing. These highly logical poker players are very difficult to bluff.
Libra Poker Playstyle (September 23 – October 22)
Libras are formidable poker players because of their balanced gameplay. Just when you think you have a Libra’s playstyle figured out, they show you that they’re capable of an equally devastating alternate playstyle. Jumping back and forth from aggressive to defensive, and from calculating to instinctive, Libras can be very tough opponents to pin down.
Scorpio Poker Playstyle (October 23 – November 21)
When playing poker, Scorpios are a dangerous combination of secretive and strategic. It’s often nearly impossible to tell what a Scorpio is thinking. They play their cards close to their chests and they seldom give any hints as to what’s going on beneath that cold exterior surface. Scorpios also excel at patience, waiting silently before stinging with a perfect hand.
Sagittarius Poker Playstyle (November 22 – December 21)
Sagittarians are hunters. They have a natural sense of adventure, and never shy away from risk. When it comes to poker, those born under the sign of Sagittarius are consummate risk-takers. When they bluff, they tend to “bluff big”, and even if they’re outmatched they’ll still often go for that big win.
Capricorn Poker Playstyle (December 22 – January 19)
Capricorns are cold and calculating poker players. Preferring not to take big risky bets, Capricorns excel at racking up small, safe-wins. It’s a strategy that’s certainly less flashy, but by the end of the evening often dominate the table. Never judge a Capricorn at the beginning of the evening. Slow and steady often wins the race.
Aquarius Poker Playstyle (January 20 – February 18)
Being an air sign, Aquarius is intellectual, creative and original. Combine those traits with Aquarius’ natural unpredictability, and you’ve got a poker adversary that can be very tough to take down. Their naturally inventive nature means their strategies often develop on the fly, and their poker face tends to be one of the best.
Pisces Poker Playstyle (February 19 – March 20)
The natural intuition of Pisces makes them masters of prediction. While they may not know what’s in your hand of cards, they tend to make excellent guesses. Their gut instincts are second to none, and they often time their oscillating offensive / defensive gameplay style perfectly.
Keep in mind that all poker players are different, and our sun signs are just one small part of our astrology charts. While understanding the playstyle of different signs can give you an edge at the card table, there’s more to any players’ playstyle than just their sun sign.
